KRONSTADT


KRONSTADT - the Russian Naval Fortress and the city on the island in Gulf of Finland (30 km from St. Petersburg), founded by Peter I in 1704 to protect young city from naval attacks. Powerful defense system was built during 200 years. It consists of 17 sea forts on man-made islands, also seaside forts and artillery batteries and fortress coastal fortifications. Until 1997 Kronstadt was a Navy base of the Russian Baltic Fleet. At present time Kronstadt is opened for foreign visitors.
Kronstadt has such unique ensembles, parks, hydrotechnical constructions and fortifications as the self-draining dock of Peter I (XVIII century), canals, harbours, the Arsenal, the Naval Cathedral, the cantonment (XVIII century), fleet warehouses (XIX century), Summer Garden, Peter's Park and many monuments.
A most pleasant and convenient way to reach Kronstadt - by a hydrofoil boat (35 min.) in summer, also by bus or car (60 min.) - a road goes over the dike with view on hydrotechnical constructions and Northern forts near the dike.

ARTILLERY MUSEUM


The Artillery museum was founded in 1756 in the reign of Elizabeth. The world's largest military museum, located in the building of the former Arsenal near Peter and Paul Fortress. You will see different guns including cannons, that stood on forts of Kronstadt fortress.
For collectors: museum's specialists carry out an examination of rifles and other weapon with giving a certificate. Provision of information to satisfy external inquiries (includes photocopying and expert opinions)

CENTRAL NAVAL MUSEUM


Naval Museum was founded according to the order of Peter the Great in 1709. Now it occupies the building of former Stock exchange. The collection of ship models of museum is one of the richest. Among specimens - a model of French galley made by Peter I and original Peter's Boat - "the Grandfather of Russian Fleet"

MUSEUM ON BOARD THE SUBMARINE "NARODOVOLETS"


One of the 6 Russian series "D" diesel submarines, built 70 years ago. After W.W.II it was used as a training ship in Kronstadt.
Inside review tours for groups up to 10 persons.

MUSEUM ON BOARD THE CRUISER "AURORA"


The cruiser was built in 1900 and took part in Zusima battle of Russian-Japanese war (1904-1905). During the W.W.II the cruiser defended Leningrad near Kronstadt. After the war the ship was repaired and placed on the Neva river in Leningrad

MUSEUM OF GENERALISSIMO SUVOROV


This military-historical museum is devoted to one of the Russia's most outstanding commander Alexander SUVOROV (1729 - 1800). The whole world knows his victories in battles against Turkey and France at Kinburn, Rimnic, Izmail and in Northern Italy. The museum was opened (1904) in special nice building which is reminiscent of an ancient Russian fortress.
